Switching Energy Providers - Choosing Start Date
I'm on a fixed tariff for 12 months with E-ON that ends at the end of next month. I used the switching tool on MSM, and found a cheaper alternative.
However there was no date to select this starting from so I abandoned it as I didnt want to pay E-ON fees to switch out of the 12 months.
I just wanted some advice on whether that was correct, as I was under the impression I was making an immediate switch.
In these instances, do you wait until the day your fixed tariff ends to make a switch?
Any advice welcomed 🙏

From MSE,
You can't be charged exit fees if you've 49 day or less left on your fix
Under Ofgem rules, suppliers can't charge exit fees in the last seven weeks of fixed-term deals. So if you're near the end of a fix, you won't have to pay a fee to leave it and move to a new tariff or supplier– provided you start your switch within the last 49 days of your current deal.

If the new tariff is more expensive than the current one, it will make sense to delay starting the new tariff until your current deal runs out.

I will move this to the energy board. @AmyTa
