Buy my holiday from a USA agent and save ££££ ?

Here is the idea, I was looking at holidays to Peru which are £2-3,000 a head from the UK but....
You can get a trip from LA, advertised on travelzoo.com starting from $999 or £500, add a flight to LA and you have a cracking deal.
So, my question, whats stopping me? I guess I would have no ABTA cover but they must have similar in the USA and if I stuck with top notch travel agents.... any thoughts or pitfalls

Ive been considering the same myself for America and cruising as the prices particularly with the dollar rates are so much cheaper.
We are planning a multi centre holiday and I plan to book the cheapest flight to one of the stops in US I want and then book everything else from US sites. I did that last year with hotel bookings and got terrific rates for california and there were no problems at all.0 -
Nothing stopping you.
Main problem is that if your flight to LA is cancelled or delayed and you miss the tour you are stuck.
And the tour would be geared to American interests which may or may not coincide with yours.0 -
Why not from MIAmi?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

I think this is really worth looking into more (Miami might indeed be better, its just the one on travelzoo was from LA).
With a couple of days in America before and after the trip to take advantage of the exchange rate and avoid the risk of delays this could half the cost of a top holiday..0 -
I did this a couple of years ago on a trip to Antarctica. Booked through a US company and got the cruise for nearly half price - the dollar price and pound price were equivalent! We booked our own flights direct to Buenos Aires to join the tour, and got a rebate for not needing the US to BA flight, so unless you want to go to the US as well, that might be an option for you.0

A flight only to Peru is about £650.
But again taking advantage of the exchange rates you can fly to Miami for £300 then onto Peru for $300 making the flight £450, and getting a stop in America.

Take a look at some of these, eg GALAPAGOS ISLANDS EXPLORER 6d $1290 .0 -
