Techno phob needs help!!!

Hi

I wondered if any one can give me some answers on a problem I am having with my lap top?

I have a Compaq lap top with Vista but it does not have the normal office type pack I had on my old lap top. I have managed so far but dont like it - have down loaded Open Office. However I have recently tried to down load Eagle Learners spread sheet pack and it will not work - I have tried both the zipped and unzipped down loads although I am not sure what the term means or what the difference is?

I really need Excel type spread sheets and miss word. Anyway to get to the point - I have the discs for the Student XP package - would this work on my new computer? I would be very grateful for any advice - thanks
Me.

  • To start off with the word "zipped" simply means its archived.

So lets say you have file1 and file2. You could compress them into one single file. Send them by email. then the other person could unzip that 1 file into the 2 original files! If you can download it in RAW format that's prob best. (RAW format is simply unmodified.. you can just download and use...)

The student XP pack will work fine but ensure you're a student or a teacher otherwise you'll be breaking T&C :)

    Thanks for that!

It makes a bit more sense now. I was not sure if loading the student pack would corrupt everything as this computer has Vista and the Pack is XP.

I am still studying with OU so still a student!

XP is simply the version name of Office and is essentially the marketing name for "Office 2002" and should still be compatible with Vista. As you are still a student then you may be eligible for www.theultimatesteal.co.uk which offers Office 2007 Ultimate for £39.
