Ebay order delivered after cancellation refund.

Ordered item and paid for it 21 day's ago and got tracking info.

Waited 8 days and no delivery and tracking says waiting to enter courier system.

Contacted seller and after back and forth messages seller to refund.

I bought the item I needed from somewhere else now.

A week after refund I got an email saying RM will deliver Tuesday.

Item arrived so I contacted the eBay seller and was told that the courier had located the lost item and now it's delivered.

I told the seller I don't want the item and they said I need to send it back and pay postage or they will charge my card that was used before for payment.

Any help on how I should respond to this issue please.

Remind the seller that they had agreed to the refund so they have no right to take money from your card.  If they do so you will dispute it with your bank.  Tell them that you are willing to post it without any postage on unless they provide a the return postage.

Was it not possible to refuse the item when it was delivered?

An eBay seller can’t take money from your card, the fact that they are being daft by suggesting that shows you need to treat them with caution.

Make sure all messages are sent via eBay, don’t enter into any other correspondence outside of eBay. Reiterate your willingness to return the item at the sellers cost if they send a pre paid label and just keep repeating that. Should seller persuade eBay to get involved, which is unlikely, or if item is expensive enough for seller to take a legal route you want it to be clearly shown you made no attempt to keep the item and have made it available for return.

    Thanks.
I don't think I could post it without a label as it was a roller for a lawnmower so it won't fit in a letter box

No chance to refuse delivery as postie just left it on door step as no signature required and I was out at the time.

All correspondence is /has been through eBay.

I haven't opened the package so as it was a not new item as is box damaged but item ok should I open it or if seller gives me return label just cover the old label with new label.

I don't want the seller to say I damaged the item that is.

Leave it sealed - but if seller agrees to uplift it then ensure they send you a label or a courier that can accept the weight.

As as correspondence has been through eBay, including the agreement to cancel the sale and issue a refund, the demand that the item be returned at your expense seems unreasonable. You have advised the seller that the item has now arrived and it is for them to pay you for the return postage. If the seller starts getting stroppy it may be worth referring the matter to eBay as a pre-emptive act as this would portray you as the aggrieved party and you can set out your case, and the seller would be on the back foot having to respond.
It may be that the item didn't cost much, and eBay may take the view that the seller has to bear the loss.
Ultimately, you have the opportunity to review the seller. Most sellers, in my experience, are very keen to preserve a good rating, and the possibility of a negative review for the sake of a few pounds is one they avoid. If, however, they see sense and agree to write the item off your review could be more positive indicating that there was a problem with the courier which you and the seller agreed a satisfactory resolution.
