MSE British Gas deal

After seeing your British Gas cheapest since 2021 deal, I rushed to change my deal which is Fixed Tariff 18M with British Gas. I checked to see that my estimated useage was the same on the British Gas website and the Cheap Energy website. The Cheap Energy website says I will save £179 incl £20 cashback. The British Gas Tariff change shows I will spend £69.69 more?? I am now confused!

What you need to check is the cost of a kilowatt hour for each fuel and the cost of the standing charge. If these are lower (particularly the Kwh cost) than your current charge then your fuel will be cheaper. It may be that the usage figures on the Cheap Energy website are lower than the figures being used by British Gas but as long as the cost per Kwh is lower you will pay less. If you have old bills you should be be able to work out your annual usage and make your own calculations.1

Thank you for replying - I used the exact same figures on my latest gas bill with my estimated Kwh annual useage and made sure they both matched with the Cheap Energy club figures?0

Are you sure the Cheap Energy Club was comparing the new MSE fix vs. your current fix, rather than comparing the new MSE fix vs. the standard (cap based) tariff?
For me it was comparing against the standard tariff, and when I tried to edit it to change that to my current fix, although it had a large number of tariffs listed, none matched the name of mine exactly ( Exclusive Fixed Energy v71 ) - there was a different one that ended v71, but I don't think it was the same.

Can you do your own calculations, or if unsure post your annual usage figures, and the individual per kWh rates for gas and electric (and standing charges), and someone will work it out for you.
How much is the MSE energy club showing your annual cost will be, and how does that compare to what BG page says?0
