Really easy to make, and mostly store cupboard ingredients. I swopped celery for garlic cloves, olive oil for spray, and used plain chopped tomatoes. Topped with seed mix and I have a pitta bread to dip. You can use whatever spices you have to taste. One of my favourites.I like chick peas and broad beans, so another one on my list - thank you.So, Cumin = Moroccan? That's it!

Very similar in carb content to 'normal' potatoes, but higher in Vitamin A, antioxidants and fibre. The purple sweet potatoes, if you can get them, are the basis of the Okinawan diet, which (you may already be aware) is a 'blue zone' area where there's a higher percentage of people staying alive and healthy to great old age. In other words, yes there are carbs (and both potatoes and sweet potatoes are a source of vitamin C) but, as with most veg, there are also lots of other goodies.WIAWSNB said:
Is sweet potato 'starch' like normal pots? (Yeah, I'll Google as well!) Most carbs removed/cut down from our diets.Thank you - will give it a go.No, not familiar with the Okinawan diet, but will check it out.

I would try that and see how hot it isWIAWSNB said:Brambling said:
Depending how hot you like it? Maybe start with one as you can add but not take away! I keep chillies and ginger in the freezer so usually add some chopped fresh chilli straight from the freezer.Edit: TWO teaspoons of chilli powder?!
I have chilli flakes. How much of this? A half-tsp?Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin1 -

Thanks everyone. The basics are there and have a lot in common, so it's subtle variations of 'erbs and 'ices and Aleppo Pepper (mmm) that are added wot make it different.I like very much

Well all I can say is that any restaurant or pub round here that started putting Chilli, ect in their lentil soup would notice a sharp drop in sales.
There is a reason why classic dishes are classic.

The advantage of making your own soup for you is that you can break the rules 😁
