Close Dormant Bank Account

My husband was executor of his father’s estate back in 2012. His father’s bank account was with Lloyds TSB and when he went to close it they got him to open an account in his name to transfer funds to.
After all payments had been made regarding the estate a balance of £1.65 was remaining. He just forgot about the account. However periodically we get bank statements from Lloyds TSB.
We recently managed to contact customer services to close the account however they cannot do it over the telephone, they said he would have to go to branch. For £1.65!
My question is, if he instigated a switch with another bank how likely will it be for it to go through?
Not that he necessarily needs another bank account but it would force close the old account.

No reason at all why a switch wouldn't work. You might be able to switch it to an existing account.
If you are looking to collect a bonus from one of the banks offering such, then you might have additional conditions to attend to like Direct Debits to set up or minimum amounts that need to be deposited in the new account etc1 -

He doesn’t @born_again
The account was used for paying debts then forgotten about. So any debit card would have expired long ago and no replacement received.0 -
Easiest way would be to initiate a CASS switch to his main bank. If the debit card is expired and no replacement was ever issued, then it should just be a matter of declaring no card exists when filling out the switching form. Failing that he might need to request a new card, wait for it to arrive, and then re-submit the switch form.0

If the account is truly dormant - I fear the CASS transfer will fail.0
