hotel booking cancelation

So I booked a hotel and paid through booking.com for one night in Belgium for next July.
I new the price was wrong far too cheap but I thought I would book it on the chance no one noticed.
Anyway I got a message from the hotel Property: "fout in systeem foute prijs gelieve te annuleren"
asking me to cancel what I don't understand is why the hotel doesn't cancel the booking
Any thoughts

whenever we've used booking.com we've had to cancel in their system not with the hotel
probably the fault was with booking.com rather than the hotel.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. maybe its not able to be cancelled by their side, they might be being amicable before getting booking.com involved
but ask for the correct price or cancel0 -
Could be to do with the commercial terms between them and booking.com that they get penalised either financially or where they appear in the search results if they are cancelling customers bookings but not if the customer cancels.jonathon said:So I booked a hotel and paid through booking.com for one night in Belgium for next July.

It's why uber drivers call and ask you to cancel because they get penalised on when they are next offered a job when they cancel.0 -
It's a good way of getting you to acknowledge that the booking has been cancelled.
They want to avoid you ignoring any emails and turning up at the hotel in 10 months time demanding your 10 EUR room.0 -

I don't expect to get the room but I'm not going to cancel, I paid £4 it should be around £800

Do you have alternative accommodation that night ?0

Usually, if the price is obviously a mistake, it cannot be enforced.jonathon said:I don't expect to get the room but I'm not going to cancel, I paid £4 it should be around £800 -
