I know it's not a credit card, but my debit account charges interest on my overdraft from the 24th of the month through until the 23rd of the next month. They then take this amount from my account on the 17th of the month after that (v confusing).

e.g. Interest accrued from the 24th Nov until 23rd Dec will be taken on the 17th Jan.

Perhaps the timings of you paying off your credit card has fallen within a similar circumstance. You may not have been charged for the previous months interest yet despite the fact your balance is zero. This would mean that you still have an outstanding amount owed.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Some credit cards will waive the interest if you pay off in full. A couple of mine have done this. One I paid off the amount outstanding - they then sent me a bill requesting a few £s interest. I rang them up and said do I really have to pay this and they said no and wrote it off. :) It wasn't much - less than £5 I think, but still £5 in my pocket.
