Well not so fast. One of the 2 debts was recently purchased by MFDP even at this late stage. I sent the statute barred letter to them last payment November 2018 etc and they have just replied with this. Time for the ombudsman ? Anyone have a standard follow up to this. Oh and btw, i checked my bank statements for the period, no payment of mine left my account. This is total fabrication.

Its not uncommon for phantom payments to be found like this, but any payment must be made by the debtor or their agent, so if a payment was made, but not by you, then that does not count,
You should first contest the payment and ask for proof it was actually made and by who.

is it for me to prove a debt is statute barred or MFDP to prove it isn't ?

They have to prove its not statute barred, you do not have to prove anything.
