Self catering in Canary Islands

Hello, me and my partner travel to Fuerteventura about 6 times a year and stay in self catering villas. We like to cook a couple of times during our stay but my pet hate is buying a 1 litre bottle of cooking oil for €4 to use not even 100ml of it and then it get chucked by the cleaners or taken. (Stayed in same villa twice within a month and oil wasn’t left in cupboard).

We only take hand luggage so this time I’m taking a 100ml clear travel bottle with cooking oil in my liquids bag. My OH thinks I’m being tight so please tell me I’m not the only one who does this??

Ha ha, good idea, I take a couple of shots of Aldi own brand Bailies for coffee, but I'll add oil to the list for frying an egg. Self catering, Lanzarote.

    That's not tight, it's money saving 😉
I said I d never do it but now I pack coffee filter things for a decent cup in my room as hotels serve not great stuff and a little tea pot or mug so I don't have to get up and down to a buffet for a second cup.
I also buy wine to drink before dinner. 2€ a bottle. Or it's 4€ a glass in the dinning room.  Frankly buffet food isn't good enough to drink wine with.

I think the oil idea is a good one.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

AirBnB do at least include oil as a standard "cooking basic" in kitchen amenities, but I agree from other self-catering experiences it's an annoying one (see also washing-up liquid!).

I wouldn’t take oil in a bottle. For the sake of four quid, I wouldn’t want to risk it leaking and having my belongings ruined.
The only I take on self catering holiday are smaller things I think I might not be able to get hold of. My fruit teabags, for example. Compared to the cost of the rest of the holiday, I can live with paying out for some of the basics.
if it ends up with the cleaners that’s fair enough, they can count it as part of their tip.

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

That's not a bad idea. I'll see if the wife will be open to me doing that on our next holiday. I hate the thought of waste rather than the cost of buying and I'd like to think the cleaners do take them and use it.

As a parent of one of those cleaners they definitely appreciate items left behind by guests that they are able to use themselves! So even if it wasn't left in the cupboard it may well have not been thrown away.

You could buy a pack of butter, great to cook with and spread on fresh bread rolls.

Backpackers tip.  Take a block of solid coconut oil.
