Interesting because we don't think about shed security where I live.
I guess now people keep fancy bikes and stuff in the garage.

Cedar has always been expensive. It used to be for trunks, storage etc because of its anti insect properties.
I'm just cautious with type and origin of the wood as having some time working with furniture found that African and Asian woods have the same common name but not always the same properties. Too much detail 🙂

I bought a hardwood bench from managed Forrest.
My sawmills friend said 'oh yes, they just managed to cut it down '😲

This seems a good explanation about cedar sheds

Personally I love the smell and colour.
Redwood is also a good hardwood.

Decided to bite the bullet and go for Western Red cedar for both sheds.  Having them built rather than buying off the shelf, as it were, so I can have them taller, 2.5m going to 2.2m with a pent roof.  All in, including skip hire to get rid of the old sheds, locks, water butts, it’s about £12k.  When I look at what it would cost to buy two the same size, 16x8 and 10x8, it’s still a significant saving, despite it being a lot of money. Having them built to order has meant I’ve gone for thicker wood for the structure and cladding, 18mm v 12mm on standard cedar sheds.

it all starts next week, and weather looks good for the next couple of weeks too, so hopefully it will all be done by the end of the month.

Well, first shed nearly complete, very pleased with the cedar wood, finishing touches still to do, but nearly there

    Nice 😊
The pine on the base might need treating or it will rot (eventually) long before the shed.

How do you open the door?

Thanks.  There is still another length of cladding to put at the bottom, and the pine is going to be treated, was waiting until the last bits were done

At the moment, no handle yet on the door, still looking at options, but to open it, it’s just a push in, to make it swing back out and then pull it open.

Second shed now nearly done, just little things to finish off.  Lock still to buy and need to properly connect up the water butts, but am very pleased with the final result.  It has transformed that corner of the garden and I’m really looking forward to setting up my workshop stuff in it.  Getting power put in next week, as well as some lighting
