    OK, so all £24k will be taxable.
    I would expect your tax bill to be towards the upper end of D&C's range (last post on previous page).

    And I guess it's always possible the op has already taken some taxable cash and a basic rate tax code could already be in place?

    So £6k would be deducted leaving no need to make a claim for a tax refund.

    6k would be workable i had naively thought abut 4.5k is but 6k is doable.

    Sorry, total brain malfunction.

    As a basic rate taxpayer ot would be £4,800 that's payable on £24,000.

    You just need to be careful about tipping into the higher rate bracket for the year as a whole.
