Car insurance - door bump

Hi
I'm looking for advice. 6 months ago my young daughter opened our car door into the car parked next to us, leaving a dent (not big but deep).
I left my details and got a message the next day. I asked them to provide a quote so that I could decide whether to pay out of pocket or not. Stupidly I didn’t even think about reporting it to the insurance company.
Over 5 months later and they have sent me a quote for £2k. Any advice?

Meanwhile - does £2k seem reasonable? Was it a new Jag or an 20 yo Ford Fiesta? Was it the driver/keeper that contacted you or their insurance company? If it's their insurance then definitely do contact yours.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. also seems to have 2 repairs on the quote and it was definitely only one dink where the bottom of our SUV door hit the front side (the second quote is for the bottom of their door which was nowhere near where our car would have reached.) I do have a pic of the damage still but didn’t take a pic of the rest of the car.

Well sounds like they haven't gone through their insurance either so you could go back to them and say you'll pay a fraction of that. If they were really car proud you would have heard immediately so chances are they will be happy with just a cheap "bang out the ding" place. Especially when you say you're going through your insurance....I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
