    I'd ask the Opening Post:

Do you shred all paperwork associated with finance?

Are stamps franked anymore?  It doesn't look like it, If so does it show where it was posted.

Is it for consideration that if you hadn't shredded and someone went through your bins, identified that you banked with Metro, the letter could have been put through your letter box by hand - the scammer - and NOT a postie and the scammer lives locally?

I bank with eight banks and they never send out mail in A4 envelopes, certainly NOT with postage stamps.

As a previous poster has said, I'd be concerned that the would be scammer knows that you bank with Metro and has your address.

Kudos to you for being so diligent.

Chase, not Metro. The same as the Co-op version of the letter in another thread, Metro is pitched as a partner. As it's app only Chase doesn't produce much paperwork so my guess would be a e.g., a retailer data leak.
