We have the acer travelmate b117 as below from you and we are getting a message saying "Windows 10 support ends in Oct 2025.
Your PC doesnt currently meet the minimum system requirements to run Windows 11"

Does this mean the PC will be come useless in Oct 2025?

Is there anything we can do if this is the case?
Also noticed it never came with a battery and wondering how we can get one.?

If you can't go to Windows 11 you can stay on Windows 10 until October 26. Security updates will be provided(but not upgrades). You should get the option to enable this soon (or it may already be there). It is free.

Although even then I would expect it to keep working, just without updates.

There's another year of extended support: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/81661495

You should consider fitting an SSD to that device, if you haven't already done so. It's cheap and will get the best out of a relatively poorly specced machine.
Of course it came with a battery. it's internal. There are two possible options; a Three Cell(AC14B18J, AC14B13J) or a Four Cell(AC14B3K, AC14B7K, AC14B8K). Simple enough to remove the back cover in order to check. Cost from around £16. SSD a similar cost and easy to fit, due to the dedicated hatch on the underside.

Your PC will continue to work. The big song and dance everyone is making is that there will be no further Windows updates from October. This will cause issues over time as security updates will stop eventually, leaving you at risk.

Also if it never came with a battery, that sounds like an issue you should have taken up with the retailer at the time of purchase. You might be able to get a replacement from Acer, or a compatible third party option online somewhere (don't have experience with laptops so can't recommend anywhere I'm afraid).

Having read the advice on here I am thinking of just buying a new laptop.

However, I am not technically minded and no idea about laptops etc.
All I want a laptop for is to use spreadsheets, PDF and Word documents. And online just for email.

Can anyone recommend anything ie links?

I was looking at this one

    https://www.argos.co.uk/product/8917748

It says its a chrome book. I read it from top to bottom and it doesnt say if its Windows 11 or not? Maybe a Chrome book doesnt need a Windows 11 but would it be good enough for pdf, word and spreadsheets and emails online?

Any links and advice appreciated. Argos or Amazon would be great. Thanks all

Chromebooks are different from windows pcs. So, you would have to get used to a completely new set of programs. For example, you have not said which program you use for spreadsheets, but with a Chromebook you would be using the Google spreadsheet application. You would also need to transfer your data to the new system.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

    1. Windows is the computer operating program for Microsoft computers
Linux (ChromeOS) is the computer operating program for Chromebook computers
So, Windows will not be involved with Chromebooks.

    2. The link you provided shows the Acer Chromebook CB314-4H, this will get security updates until June 2033.
This information is to be found in Google Update Policy below:
    https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/6220366?hl=en#zippy=,acer

    3. Chromebooks should do the things you mentioned you want to do.

    4. Read the following to see if you think a Chromebook would suit your needs

For £200 budget, I suggest you go for used business laptop.
