Argos and Yodel fail to deliver...reordered at twice the price.

I ordered two lamps from Argos at a half price in a sale. The site says they will deliver using Yodel on Friday. They don't turn up. Still nothing the following wednesday, so I get in touch via chat - but no record of this unfortunatley; they can't tell me where the goods are, they say they can't send a replacement. All they can do is cancel the order and I have to re-order them. The price has now gone up to double what it was. I have re-ordered it but are they breaking consumer law and breaking a contract?

I have a suspicion that it's a Yodel problem that they don't bother to deliver to rural addresses because it doesn't pay them. DPD are worse.

Many companies don't have a choice of courier, even if you explain by phone, that company X is simply not going to deliver and you'd prefer Royal Mail because they are WAY more reliable.

They absolutely can send a replacement. but they choose not to either because they cannot due to system restrictions, policy or they just don't want to. If you had to re-order at the usual price because the sale has ended, then you would have reasonable grounds to claim the difference back. If Argos refuse, then you may have to sue them for the difference and its up to you as to whether that's worth your time.
