Mine has my washer and my dryer. It also has a sink that I used for the 'dirtier' jobs. Under the sink is the cupboard where things like bleach and cleaning materials are stored. The vacuum cleaner lives in there, along with a clothes horse, the (rarely used) ironing board and a few other similar bits and pieces.

I also have a largish fridge freezer in there - I do a lot of batch cooking on a weekend so I can eat reasonably healthily in the week. The built in fridge freezer in the kitchen just isn't big enough for me to do that. The extra fridge is useful too - though it does seem to end up with a lot of wine in there... hmmm... not sure quite what a second fridge for wine says about my lifestyle!

I was viewing houses earlier this year and there was one terraced house which had a small room between the kitchen  and the garage (built onto the back of the house, accessible from back alley. On the estate agent's plans it was labelled 'utility room.' It had neither plumbing nor power points nor even a light.  NOT a utility room: a cubboard
The minimum has to be plumbing and power for a washing machine, a sink, and a door you can shut so you can't hear the washing machine. Space for a tumble dryer is also good, and extra cupboards are always useful.

I saw a similar thing - a cupboard with the boiler in and enough space to hide the vacuum cleaner, marked as utility room on the plans
