and in the case of the first one, can you get one that has 2 on/off switches? Thanks.

I'd call the first one a surface mounted fused isolation switch, the lower one is a surface mounted junction box
The box and the front can be bought separately.
Do you need it fused? haven't seen a twin switch with fuses but you can if its ok for them to be unfused1 -
Apologies - I'd wandered off there. The unit in question is in a garage. It has 2 motion sensored security lights plumbed into it - 1 external light and 1 internal. The outdoor light is playing up ie. not going off after it's been triggered into action. I'd ideally like it to be replaced but have it's own switch so that if it happens again, I can just switch it off without losing function from the internal light while I await a replacement. Thank you.1

So the easiest thing is probably getting an electrician to put in a 2-gang light switch after the switched fused spur so the two lights can be switched independently of each other, but with both of them still having fuse protection.Rusty190 said:Apologies - I'd wandered off there. Would that mean just plumbing in some wire (you'll be relieved to hear that I will not be touching any of this!) from the box I've got to a "normal" double light switch? I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth replacing the faulty light or just getting an electrician to disconnect it completely. What I decide depends on how much hassle is involved in what's suggested. Thank you.Section62 said:

If you want that outside light at some point, and surely you do, then your idea of having them independently switched is a good one. And S62's solution makes sense; that metal-clad FSU feeds a twin, metal-clad, light switch:Rusty190 said:

The proper name for the thing in the first picture is a Switched Fused Connection Unit (SFCU). I have never seen one with two switches. The only option would be to assemble one out of switches and fuseholders as part of a grid switch. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
I was going to say the same - a double SFCU could be assembled from a grid system. If you wanted an independent switch and fuse for each light though, I think you'd need a new backbox to accommodate a four-gang grid plate. Probably easier and cheaper to add a twin light switch fed from the existing SFCU.Ectophile said:The proper name for the thing in the first picture is a Switched Fused Connection Unit (SFCU). you could just take the bulb out of the outside oneRusty190 said:Apologies - I'd wandered off there. The unit in question is in a garage. Assemble out of a grid system ma botty.
As to whether it's a FSU, or a SFU or a S with and FU (my fav), or even an SFCU, is also botty stuff.
Best do as S62 suggests.1
