British Gas, mistake what is acceptable compensation in this situation?

Being laughed at costs you nothing. I would formally write to them citing their failures, the harassment for a debt that was not yours and the resultant stress during your family holiday. Tell them you want reasonable compensation and you'd be willing to settle for £1000, otherwise you'll consider instructing a solicitor. They'll probably offer you £250. Take that.Zer0cool said:I don't want to accept £10 if £500 was in order, or indeed ask for £500 and be laughed at if £10 was all i can expect.
I do this kind of thing a lot, because I long ago became tired of putting up with the incompetence and assumed unaccountability of these companies.1 -
All well and good - but what would you instruct a solicitor to reasonably try and claim for ?
Often these firms just pay “go away and stop bothering us” money as it costs them far more in time dealing with it.
Sometimes, I wish they would stand firm and defend as the costs just gets put onto all consumers in the end - but then that costs them more. Why can’t people just accept “oops we made a mistake, we are sorry”
Everyone makes mistakes
*edit
of course if there is a monetary loss, then you absolutely have the right to be compensated for that3 -
I wouldn't, at least not for something like this. But telling them you will gets them moving.LightFlare said:All well and good - but what would you instruct a solicitor to reasonably try and claim for ?1 -
Unlikely it would do anything whilst there is a regulated complaints process to go through.Chief_of_Staffy said:
