Selling on ebay after a few years away

Have a few queries,
What is with the payment holds and how long do they last? I think I will get some due to a break.
Why is there a code in the middle of the address, something like ebaylt7dfc (made that up), is it relevant if you aren't using ebay's printed postage (which is what I assume it is for)?
What happen to Royal Mail and signature prices, they're pretty steep now, a fiver for first class large letter under 100g, yikes. It seems tracking is the better option, not sure why a signature is necessary with tracking though. I'm also guessing online is cheaper and I'm a mug for still going to the post office?

A lot of items are now under an included postage scheme called simple delivery, although if your items are large letter under £20 and in an exempt category you can still use your own postage. This will be clear though as under simple delivery you get sent a pre paid label.savefortherain said:Have a few queries,What is with the payment holds and how long do they last? Online prices for RM are in most cases cheaper online than at the PO or using stamps, you can print labels direct on eBay if needed, I do it that way. Realistically for items under £20 standard postage is fine, labels on eBay have a delivery confirmation number which is automatically uploaded at point of label purchase anyway which is fine. I don’t think anyone really uses signed for now as it’s horrendously expensive and doesn’t give any additional compensation for loss. Again do you need 1st class? You will be charging a lot more than most people , my LLs between 100g and £250g for instance are just £1.80 (I might be 10p wrong on that as I’m not at my PC where my charts are). My LLs under 100g though are definitely £1.55 as I send a lot of them.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
