Changing Current Account

I have frequently changed accounts, however, latest offer from 1st Direct has condition that you have not had HSBC account since 2018.
Because I've changed so many times, I can't remember if I have been with them.
How do I check?

  • Do you keep your emails? Search there.

Your credit reports will have details of previously held current accounts.

Personally I look at the spreadsheet that has details of every account I've held for the last 7 years.
  • Took a while, but eventually accessed my credit history via my MSE Credit Club. Thanks for the tip. as don't keep statements for that long.

Credit record has the last 6 years so might still be useful but increasingly it will rely on records you keep as you do

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Best practice would to keep and maintain your own records, but failing that you could also consider submitting a DSAR to the banks directly to see what information they hold on file related to account openings and incentive payments.
