Well since it's not to be driven, I'm part way tempted to take the battery out since it still has a years warranty on it. Then they can sort the removal of it without driving it since it's not to be driven.0 -

B0bbyEwing said:So you're saying that no dealer deals in cars around the £1k area?
See if you can spot the difference with what you suggest I said...Mildly_Miffed said:Nobody is buying cars for a grand from a dealer. It would be silly to even think about doing it.
No dealer worth buying a mars bar from would even contemplate that end of the market. Are you from London by any chance where everything is ridiculously priced anyway?
No. Not even remotely close.I've bought in and around that from dealers where the car has lasted a good number of years.
But, at a guess, that was not even remotely recently...?
Almost all the viable bangernomics candidates have long gone for that money. A grand's-worth is the end of the market where there are few decent cars worth buying, and an AWFUL lot of dross. The stuff worth buying is with private sellers.
Just looking at FB marketplace within a reasonable radius of here, the least-repulsive things listed for a grand are a 21yo Mondeo estate with claimed 8mo test that's actually 3mo and has been used as a builder's van, a leggy 14yo Qashqow with a month's ticket and several "easy just never bothered honest mate" fail points admitted to, a visibly crunchy 19yo Astra estate with claimed 11mo ticket that turns out to be 8mo - or the only one that might actually have a fighting chance of surviving another test, a giffer-special 50k-in-20yrs Almera Tino with 2mo ticket.0 -

Anyway as for the insurance, there's a few points been made that's good to know now so thanks for those.
As for this case, it's out of my hands & dealt with, unfortunately.
I've taken a few bits & bobs out which I'll sell on. Nothing major.
Apparently it's no longer insured so they say & they specifically said it is not to be driven.

No dealer would sell a £1000 car these days, unless it's a trade deal moving the car on to another dealer. I looked up the latest advert from a backstreet dealer that I sold a car to in the past. The cheapest was £1400. And that's 60 miles outside London. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
My sisters car (2016 mondeo estate ) was written off in June as someone ran into the back of her & the insurance would not budge on their £6200 offer which she finally accepted & then bought the car back for £1900 which they delivered to her house as they said it wasn't safe to drive. Next day on trade plates it went to a local garage who did a quick check on rear bumber & stuck it through the MOT which it flew through, so back on the road with a slightly creased bumper & the mot fee , ok it's now cat n but she was going to keep the car anyway. Every cloud has a silver lining so they say as she only paid £7250 for it 3+ years ago.As for bangernomics it's still an option ,i'm not as diligent as i once was but when the old Fabia tdi pd estate finally died a few months ago after 4.5yrs of ownership /use & abuse ( paid £450 sold for £250 with £200 cost of parts in that time, don't count the cost of tyres) , now the owner of a 2014 passat 1.6tdi estate for £1400 from a local backstreet dealer after having checked back through the impressive mot history & full main dealer service record. I always fit new all season tyres & it's cost £150 for a service including new drop links & front wheel bearings ( £35 road tax vs £195 for a 2017 or newer covers that £150 spend) , sailed through it's mot & runs sweet despite it's 260k miles, a bit more upmarket bangernomics than i'm used to though but i expect at least a couple of years cheap motoring whilst the £20k car fund still keeps earning interest til i bite the bullet on something much newer.1
