Dental Insurance Question

I have 1 wisdom tooth that needs removing, but they're suggesting to do all 4 at once before it gets bad.
I'll be doing this privately, but the dentist suggested getting dental insurance and waiting a few months, then claim through insurance.
Would it really be this simple? If I wait for the required time, can I claim for the whole lot?

Generally you cannot claim on insurance for an event you knew about before buying the policy in the same way you can't bet on a race thats already been run. Similarly preventative treatment often isnt covered but there can be exceptions when recommended by the appropriate professional.
Cash plans are different to insurance though and they typically do respond to pre-existing issues though the nature of them tends to mean payouts are limited and you won't get back more than you are paying in unless you have multiple claims in the year.0 -
Removal of wisdom teeth is not considered routine dental treatment. You already know that your wisdom tooth needs removing so if you were to take out an insurance policy for it, this would be committing fraud.Denplan might be different because this is run by the dentists more as a way of spreading costs. It's worth talking to your dentist about this but I'd question if their advice is morally sound.0
