Might be worth going into the branch directly to apply if you are able to. Sounds like it's an incorrect address causing the problems and they may be able to override it in branch?
  • Thanks to you all for your help.

Opened my eyes to that fact that my credit score isn't rubbish, the report's really quite interesting and useful, and that Experian make mistakes (and that I don't appear to be on the electoral roll / register / whatever).

Might also go into the branch at some point, but the whole beauty of dealing with A&L is that they're very much focussed on internet / mobile banking and I've always had good service from them in the past.

I cannot believe if you already have 3+ accounts with them that they need to do all these additional checks. It certainly isn't a legal requirement unless they haven't verified you in the past.

Did you make it clear when you applied that you were an existing customer?

The problem you have is that generally people living in rented accommodation are less likely to pay their bills and more likely to commit fraud. There is sometimes a postcode lottery and if yours is blighted you may have to jump through all these additional hoops.

It would help if they got the address right though!

Smile :), it makes people wonder what you have been up to.

Last August (i think it was) money laundering rules updated again. You cannot use the old "existing customer" opt out for new applications unless the ID you hold on file is current and valid.
