House Insurance

I have an older house which is stone built.  Last year I had the original kitchen knocked down and rebuilt.  Block and beam with a flat roof and fire retardant timber cladding.  I dealt with my existing insurance provider re this.

my renewal is due and I am struggling to get any comparison quotes as I can’t just say walls are stone.  I have looked at quite a few sites but have yet to find one where I can put that there are different elements.  The amount of flat roof can easily be dealt with.  Surely this must be a fairly frequent occurrence.  Does anyone know of a comparison site that can cope with this.

On the money supermarket site the only option is to put Other and then this drastically increases the cost.  Any pearls of wisdom? Thanks

What proportion is of the new construction materials -v- the rest of the house being Stone? Most want to know what the majority of the property is and not that it's exclusively it.

Good question, thanks for responding.  So the new bit is block and beam single storey with a flat roof.  So breeze blocks is the main construction, and timber cladding (fire retardant treated).  In terms of the ground floor area it is now about 50 / 50.  so I guess about 2/3rds is stone as 2 storey.  I also have an unattached single garage which will be breeze blocks.

I guess I could do comparisons based on stone and relevant flat roof % and see how that compares.  My concern is that without saying about this my insurance could be declined should the worst ever happen.

For safety you'd speak to the insurer before buying to ensure they are happy with the answer but certainly some do explicitly advise in a multi-construction method you should advise what the majority of the building is and so someone asking such a question can't have comeback on you as long as you answer it accurately.
