Indesit washer not heating water?

Hello all

I have a Indesit EWD71453WUKN_WH Washing Machine and since we got it a few weeks ago we have never noticed the front glass ever get warm or hot when on a 59 or 90 wash. We have stopped it part way during wash cycle after the initial cold fill and waters always cold. Washing is always cold when its finished and never any steam can be seen in the drum.

I honestly dont think the heat function works.

I called Indesit and they sent a engineer out this morning and he just turned it on, left its a few seconds and said I am happy its running normally. I said yes but the waters not heating up and he said you wouldn't know its heating up as it only heats up for a very short time and the glass wil never get warm.

He then literally just said OK bye and left.

He never tested the heating or the water temp.

Please can I get some advice?

Thanks all

  • Halfway through the cycle, the glass should be warm if it isn’t, there’s a fault. When we called an engineer for the same issue with an AEG, he used a special button combination (the “engineer’s code”) to put the machine into service mode. From there, he could test the temperature, spin speed, water usage, and so on. It might be worth Googling to see if you can find the code to enter your machine’s engineer service mode.
  • Changing the heating element shouldn't be a big job it sounds like he wanted to go home early.

My former WM was Indesit and I could pause it mid-cycle and open the door. I can do the same with my current  Hotpoint.
Also, with a smart meter or some other device you can monitor power consumption. Heating takes the highest power, much higher than the motor and other minor components.

I doubt the glass is insulated enough to prevent you feeling the heat inside - I see nothing describing it as double-glazed, for example - so either it ain't working, or else your 'feel' timing is pants.
The latter is unlikely, as it will actually be heated for most of a normal wash duration.
If I place my hand on my wm's glass after, say, a half hour, I feel it's warm, and that's with a standard 40o wash. Occasionally I do a 90-degreeer, so the machine is cleaned as well, and the glass is too hot to keep your hand on for more than a few seconds.
How long is a 'cotton' wash - around 2 hours? Set one going and feel the glass after, say, 40 minutes. If it ain't warm, it ain't working. It's under g'tee - insist on a replacement.
If you wish to open the door to check, stop the wash and turn to rinse&drain - after it's largely emptied, the door should open. If the contents are coldwatercold, it's clearly not working.

If you have an energy monitoring plug you could use that to see if the power usage wattage goes up when the heating element kicks in.

Also maybe use the smart meter hub that shows current wattage being used.

    Just an idea.

Wouldn’t it throw up a fault code if it’s not getting to temperature?, I’d try it empty on a boil ( 90) wash…

Yes, and even looking at your spinning meter disc or dials will show this instantly. Make sure nothing else major is drawing power, and the disc/rh pointer should slowly move as soon as the wm is turned on, and spin very obviously once the heater kicks in, a few minutes after the fill.
