Padlock for outdoors/shed rec.

Same boat as you, bought one that said outdoor, left there over the winter and it wasn't going anywhere, had to buy a grinder to get rid of it, never used one before, it was a stressful experience. So I made an effort to research the second one, was even worse, within 2 weeks it started rusting. So I just hang it there unlocked. I need a new one. Thanks to everyone who put a recommendation and the mention of the oil.Note:I'm FTB, not an expert, all my comments are from personal experience and not a professional advice.Mortgage debt start date = 25/10/2024 = 175k (5.44% interest rate, 20 year term)

I've got a boring Squire 35 on my shed. Has been there for a decade or so. Occasionally give it a squirt of oil but it's been no trouble.N. Hampshire, he/him. Indeed, it's really just a deterrent. I reckon I could break in to most sheds armed with nothing more than a big screwdriver, regardless of the type of lock used.outtatune said:And the great thing about Masterlock is that if you lose the key or forget the combination it's still easy to open! They don't have a great reputation for security.
They just need to look more secure than the shed next door without a lock at all.0 -
Thanks to all - ive got some reasonable looking padlocks from the suggestions above and they seem fine. Squirted with oil and left for a couple of days before use so lets see how they fare this winter.
I am under no illusion that if someone really wanted to get into my wooden shed then they will. I have got a decent ground anchor fixed to the floor plus a highly rated lock so a couple of layers to slow down any crims.

Just to add that I believe you need to decide in advance whether you're a WD50 person, or a 3-in-1 oil person, because I've been told they don't mix very well.
But I agree that regular oiling is likely to be more important than what you start with. We had several at work (dustbins, gates, sheds) of varying quality, and I wouldn't say any stood out particularly. We had someone who oiled them monthly, and if there any complaints of stiffness in between times I wielded the WD40!Signature removed for peace of mind1
