Hotels in the uk

Any tips on booking hotels?
It appears like travel lodge and premier inn dominate the market but they are clever and charge extra for later notice.
I guess I'm looking for a comparison site to find a hotel in an area. Be good to have some filters to narrow it down.
Any recommendations?

I tend to use Premier Inn.  Even with their cheapest rate, you can amend the booking up until 1pm on your arrival date.

Try Trivago, they search across the different hotel booking sites and show you the prices

They also have filters that include things like free cancellation, breakfast included etc so you can narrow your search depending on your criteria

We've stayed in a Premier Inn twice now and much prefer it to Travel Lodge. Our room in the TL in Westwood Cross, near Broadstairs, had a broken window stay and black mould in the sealant around the bath. The reception wasn't staffed 24/7, which made us feel insecure, and we had to eat off site as TL hotels rely on being near a pub or restaurant.

It depends on what kind of hotel you want.  If it's something to stay in en route to somewhere else then trivago does just fine.  But if you want to a cottage or a stately home then you are better off tracking down the specialist sites.  When we find a hotel we like we check if it's part of a group so that we can see if there's another in a different location we might like to try.  And the bigger chains will have their own websites so if you google Holiday Inn you'll find the full range of their different status of places.

    Amend, yes. Cancel, no.

  • Depends what you’re looking for. I like a fairly high end hotel with spa facilities and a swimming pool, plus I have accessibility needs. I use hotels.com to see what’s available in the area I’m visiting and filter the search, but then I usually book direct with my chosen place. I find it’s often cheaper to do that, or they give added extras for the same price.

Hotels.com, Booking.com, trivago all have comparisons and filters. Individual preferences as to what suits you best but once you found a hotel you like it’s always worth checking with a hotel directly or looking on another comparison site because the prices can vary for the same dates depending on which site you are using.

If you did want to look at Travelodge your Premier Inn, then you would need to do those separately as they are not on comparison sites.
