Harvey water softner

I have already have a water softener in my attic, it was done by the previous owner. Harvey said they can install it over there, or they can install under the staircase, which is... So if we install under the staircase, so the water softener will work for entire kitchen as well as the top bathroom. But if I install in the attic, the water softener will work only for the toilet and bathroom upstairs. And my water filter will be under the kitchen sink, the water will be filtered in kitchen, but no soft water in the kitchen. So what do you recommend, do I need to have soft water in my entire house or just my bathroom, upstairs bathroom? Thank you.

I can't understand why you would want a water softener only serving an upstairs bathroom. Maybe it used to supply a cold water tank which served most of the house, but has since been removed? Using a water softener is usually to prolong the life of appliances using water, such as washing machines, dishwasher, electric kettles etc. Look at Harvey's own website for the suitability of such water for drinking.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Thanks for replay. My concern is having entire house with softer water supply including kitchen. Is it safe to drink soft water . Do I need
a separate hard water supply to kitchen tap. Harvey said it is very complex and I need to route through 2 rooms to reach the litchen0 -
I have a gravity fed boiler and water tank and hot water cylinder at attic. The stop !!!!!! is under the staircase and it is split into 2 one goes to upstairs tank other to kitchen. So I fit Harvey under the sink all house will have soft water if go to attic then just the upstairs bathroom

Soft water might taste different to drink than hard water, but it is perfectly safe and you do get used to it. I have my water softener in an ensuite bathroom, but the connecting pipework attaches to my water pipe just next to the water meter...so all water entering my property if softened. The water softener stops limescale build up in bathrooms, kitchen appliances and it also means I need less shower gel and detergents.I've never had a water filter. I'm not convinced that there is any benefit to that0 -
I would think that if you're going to the trouble of installing and running a water softener, you want it to cover all appliances using water, including your shower and central heating.
Don't have a water softener, and live in a hard water area, but we do have a plumbed in fridge/freezer with a filter on its water supply. The water dispensed by the fridge does taste better than that from the tap. I change the filter once a year, where the manufacturer says every 6 months.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. We have a water softener under the kitchen sink that provides soft water to the whole house - apart from the kitchen sink and one adjacent outside tap. That way we get softened water to the dishwasher and washing machine as well as bath, showers, toilets etc. - which is great. We prefer not to cook or make tea/coffee with softened water as it does taste different - but are quite happy to brush our teeth with it upstairs.
I would advise against using softened water for watering plants or filling fish ponds - hence not connecting to the outside tap.0 -
