Can anyone recommend a good value greetings card supplier please? I used to use Funky Pigeon, but they are very pricey now and it seems they have introduced premium only cards now as well. This is the time of year when I to need to buy a few cards with various occasions coming up.

The ability to customise cards would be a plus as well.

Thanks in advance.

I’m not sure what you mean by pricey, because I’ve never used them, but I have used thortful. Not cheap, but if you sign up to your email as you sometimes get a four for £10 offer.

If you have a Card Factory shop near you, they have cheap cards that you can write in and post yourself......
  • Moonpig etc will always be pricey (a basic card is around £4 something at least).  That's because they are not a greetings card supplier; they provide additional services like printing you a one-off card, mailing it to the recipient, and sending you reminders about birthdays for people you have previously used the service for.  Their captive market is people who don't want to go into town and get a standard card, get a stamp and then post it.

Any company who provides just a "supply" of personalised cards would not make any money if they were to sell them for a resonable price, as they'd still have to mail it to you and use their equipment/ink to create your card.

The best value ones are usually in the budget section of card shops or supermarkets where they can sometimes be had for 50p.

The other option is to make your own, but after you've bought plain card at retail prices, and paid a fortune for ink, you may well be worse off.

In the past, I was spending a small fortune doing the all too familiar run once or twice a month to Tesco for the privilege of spending a few quid a pop buying a birthday card for a member member/work colleague.

A few years ago I said no more and bought - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09Q5VTMCF and haven't looked back (I still haven't run out).

Appreciate that if you wanted a specific card like "congratulations on graduating" or "happy anniversary" - you would still need to go!

I rarely buy cards, but expect them to be a couple of pounds.  Popped into a Card Factory a few weeks ago, chose a decent card, didn't check the price, phone out ready to pay and it was 15p!
  • We get ours from local shops. Much more reasonably priced. M&S used to do some for £1 each but I don’t buy them there anymore.

I find M&S often has nice, inexpensive cards. Personally I keep a small stock of generic cards suitable for birthdays etc. and I buy my Christmas cards in the January sales.

Most there are under £1, and they sometimes have deals where you can mix and match 4 or 5 for £1 ... .they're very good value, it's just the postage that's expensive if you haven't a ready supply of still valid stamps bought before the prices sky-rocketed....

Buying and sending a card yourself gives the opportunity to include a handwritten message which is more personal than the typed ones you get in Moonpig style cards sent straight from the factory...
  • Just to clarify- when I have used Funky Pigeon or whatever, I have always had the cards sent back to me, so I can hand write my greeting, unless it was a very last minute one, so then I’ve sent it direct. But that hasn’t happened often.
