Gatwick Airport parking charge issue for less than 5 minutes drive at the drop off area

Hello Everyone.

I drove through Gatwick Airport South Terminal and I didn't stay longer than 5 minutes. I got a ticket and appealed to the ticket.

I used the following information when I appealed to the ticket.
"5. The car was present in the drop off zone for not more than 5 minutes and the driver is entitled to the 5 minute consideration period mandated by the BPA Code of Practice"

I got an answer they are saying I need to pay the fee. It seems that they never checked the ticket and my appeal message. I believe I am right and I didn't pay the ticket.  What do I need to do? Any suggestions?

Thanks

Here is the long explanation of appeal result

Site: Gatwick Airport South Terminal Drop Off
Issue date: 21/08/2025
Thank you for your appeal received on 31/08/2025 regarding the above detailed Parking Charge, we have reviewed your case
and considered the comments you have made. Your appeal has also been considered in conjunction with the evidence
gathered at the time of the contravention. Our records show the notice was correctly issued as your vehicle was in breach of
the Terms and Conditions.
There is more than adequate signage available including £ signs on the road itself, to advise charges apply for visiting the Drop
Off area.
We are therefore unable to cancel the Parking Charge as it was issued correctly. We have now extended the discounted
payment period by a further 14 days to allow you time to pay the discounted settlement amount. Please now make payment of
£60 to reach us by 19/09/2025 or £100 to reach us by 03/10/2025. We must advise you that once the discounted settlement
rate passes it will not be offered again.

    I believe I am right
You are not right. The current Joint Code gives no consideration or grace period at drop off zones.

However, as long as you didn't tick 'driver' you obviously win at POPLA by pointing out the usual words about the POFA (that you should have used in the first appeal). Do not talk about grace periods.

See the Airport Drop off group thread for the correct appeal, which will work at POPLA.

I thought you had to pay to drop off no grace period, we never take as long as 5 mins to get out of the car but our taxi driver has to pay each time his number plate is flagged, he has an account
  • The scam is that they charge you for driving through the zone whether you stop or not, you need to follow C-M's advice

OP, you need to read table B1 of Annex B in the PPSCoP. A drop off zone only has a 1 minute consideration period.

Yes you are right, and we know this.

But if you get a PCN it's 100% winnable on appeal. Which is what I explained to the OP. Easy!
