Damaged Honeywell programmable thermostat

My thermostat is damaged and needs replacing.
This might be a stupid question, but if I just buy a new one, will it just work or does it need to be linked to the combi boiler somehow? If so, can a layperson do it, or do I need a heating engineer? The model is Honeywell T3R.
Thanks.

The T3R looks to consist of two parts; the bit with the display, and the bit that's wired into the heating system. The two parts are paired so (unless there's a way to repair a replacement) you'll probably need both.Fitting the wired part looks no more complicated that wiing a plug, but will involve bare wires. If you're not comfortable with DIY, you will probably want an electrician (although a heating engineer should also be capable). You'll find instructions here:N. Hampshire, he/him.
