Anyone worked out how to make a phone call to a contact using 'ok google, callxxx ' over bluetooth?

Time was when you could use 'ok google' over bluetooth to call a contact but that seems to have disappeared?  Friends with iPhone seem to still be able to use Siri to do it - but not google on android. Is there a fix or a way round it using 3rd party apps?

Is Bluetooth relevant? Can you ask Google Assistant directly on your phone?

So is this something you are doing in car?

Relevant because I access it through a bluetooth helmet comms device. The phone is tucked away. I used to be able to make contact calls using 'ok google, call xxx' but that has stopped in recent months.

No, on a motorbike.  TBH I haven't tried calling in a car - but I don't think you can access 'OK Google' through a phone link? Even with Android Auto. Although again, Siri (iPhone) lets you do it.

Update: After some further digging, I found the answer here - https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/1f6juza/cant_make_calls_with_ok_google_from_lockscreen/ - seems like the issue is related to whether you're running google assistant or the new Gemini AI on the phone. It recommends you revert to the old Google Assistant as the Gemini AI cannot make calls.
