Joint accounts online

Morning all

Can anyone recommend a basic joint account we can open online in a simple process please?
You've either got to go into branch or open sole accounts and then join them?

Thank you!

  • We opened a Nationwide FlexDirect account online recently. We were not even in the same building/house as each other at the time. True, one of us held a sole account.  New account looked to be easier than adding a second name.
  • Not Barclays; it was painfully slow and complicated when we opened ours and we had to go in branch

We’ve had various joint accounts with Nationwide over many years - Flex, FlexDirect & now FlexPlus. Also with Santander, (& previously Abbey National). I don’t remember anything onerous in application processes for either, as long as you can both be verified electronically ie on Electoral Roll & known to CRAs.

Monzo and Starling have the best apps by far, you need to open separate accounts and then open a joint one but it only takes a few minutes in the app.

I think Santander let you open a joint one directly, although they are quite old fashioned in terms of the app. My wife and I opened a joint one directly a few years ago, although we had a joint mortgage with them which might have eased the process.
  • Concur with @badger09. My wife and I opened a joint current account (FlexDirect) online with Nationwide about 18  months ago using the current account switching service to switch from another joint current account elsewhere.
