Close the TSB account. No point blaming TSB for doing what you wanted it to do.

Thank you for the reply. But if revolut and Monzo block it as gambling and TSB don’t that means TSB are doing something wrong surely?
Revolut and Monzo are more modern banks, they may well be using retailer matching as well as the MCC, which why they have blocked it. TSB are a legacy bank and likely using MCC only, so an inaccurate MCC from the gambling site would allow the transaction to go though. I would not say that they are doing anything wrong.

TSB could certainly do better, but they make it clear on their website that the block covers "most gambling websites, casinos, and betting shops. I.e. they're not claiming to be perfect, and you can't rely on them to stop you making bad decisions. Plus you're not paying for the service so can't really expect perfection.

Have you checked in your on line banking / app if they are showing the merchant category against the transaction ? Many do and that would give a clear indication of where the fault lies.

Not necessarily wrong, just not as much as the others.

As has been explained, most will simply block the MCC in relation to gambling, it's the same way that credit cards are blocked too. Your bank however isnt in control the MCC being set for the firm and its possible that they have an MCC that isnt related to gambling for some reason.

Its possible for a bank to block individual merchant IDs too but no bank has a list of every gambling company in the world let alone a list of all their merchant IDs (many companies have multiple) plus you'll have complexities like the US hotel/casinos where one company has both gambling and non-gambling operations and may or may not split them over different merchant IDs.

It could be after prior customer complaints that Monzo and Revolut have blocked this firm but TSB hasn't had the same complaints so haven't. It's very possible there are other firms that TSB have blocked but Monzo hasn't.

But it didn't do what they wanted it to do, ie stop debit card transactions to gambling sites.

That is why they posted here in the first place.

If you're asking what are the odds of getting a refund from TSB, the answer is very long indeed.
