CONTENTS INSURANCE FOR A SECOND HOME

I have bought a very small flat which would be classed as a second home and am currently trying to arrange contents insurance for it. The first broker I've gone to is looking at a policy which doesn't pay out at all for the first 180 days.

I can understand the reasoning behind this but I've never heard of such a long period of time for this. How long could you normally expect?

What are they trying to sell you? Second Home insurance? Unoccupied Home? 

How often will you be going there and staying overnight?

What is the purpose of this second home?  It it like you live there Monday to Friday and spend the weekend at your existing home?

There are a lot of factors affecting the insurance such as how much it will be occupied and by whom.

They have asked very little about its use and it seems to have no bearing on this length of time.
