Autolights on our new to us Yaris are far too sensitive, even when set at the lowest setting.  A few weeks ago it was bright sun, drove under a few trees, headlights on, short road bridge, headlights on.

It is also impossible to turn the lights fully off.  Its auto, side or headlights only.

Do you mean DRLs? They've been a legal requirement for a decade now.

It will be the lights, they save 0.1p per car by not having an OFF position on the switch anymore.

My Citroen is just the same: no OFF, just AUTO, SIDE, HEAD on the switch.

Extra super annoying when you just want to sit in the car with the radio on after dusk (which gets ever earlier as we approach the solstice- the equinox is on Monday) the headlights illegally come on when parked on the road.

However, I found A Solution- simply move the switch to SIDE and the illegal headlights go out. ;)

Then on exiting, the car makes frantic bleeping noises to tell you to turn the sidelights off.

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Yes, that is the same with this old VW Crafter, auto means the headlights come on even during the day, so my only option is to put side lights on.

What vehicle do you drive that is limited to 56mph?
I know I have the 56mph limiter when the wagon can't go any faster.  This is a very "dark matter" but a quick google search will tell you.
I just used that as an example, our Crafters are limited to 60/62 I believe. I actually bought a 62 mph sign from ebay and stuck it on the rear door of my regular vehicle. Many companies put stickers on the rear, but not my company. I would have thought it would be a requirement.

I noticed by daughter was driving her Toyota in bad weather with only her DRL on, she thought the lights were automatic and she didn't need to do anything.

No, I mean as others have noted there is no 'off' position for the lights.  I assume its to stop people driving around at night just with DRLs and no rear lighting.
