PIP Timeline

Just wondered if anyone could give me an idea of how long they waited once their PIP application was submitted?
I initially had an application deadline of 25th July but asked for 3 extensions as I was finding it really hard to complete the form. I posted it on Wednesday 10th September and I was just wondering how long others have waited to hear anything.
Many thanks

Many many months. I waited over 12 months for a renewal application. I think new applications are given more priority than renewals but you are still looking at months rather than weeks

You will get a text once DWP have received it onto their system, can take upto 2 weeks to reach that point.

Once they have confirmed receipt of your claim it will go off to one of the companies that deal with your claim. They will then contact you to arrange either a face to face meeting or a phone call or if really lucky just do a paper assessment.

A quick google seems to be around 3 months for the process. But as ever it depends on each part of the process.

Good news is that if you get approved for PIP, the payment is backdated  to start date of claim.

I had a PIP renewal form sent out to me and I completed it in February last year 2024. I only got heard back from them in May of this year (2025). I was told someone was going to phone me and she was asking on the spot questions about different things on my form but why it took them 15 months to deal with my renewal I don't know. I was receiving Higher Rate Mobility & Lower Rate Care Component but I was awarded Higher rate on both this time and got back pay from the time I sent my form back to them. Hope you hear from them soon
  • Yes I forgot to say that I was sent occasional text messages telling me they were still dealing with my claim. I received 4 or 5 in the 15 months I had to wait. I'm assuming there is a big backlog of applications for them to look at.
