60% discount on double glazing!

So....
Getting quotes for double glazing, not my first rodeo and in fact to my shame I was a double glazing sales person in the late 80's
along with Tupperware, Oriflame and yes... Kirby hoovers.
So quote number 1 drew some cute little hand drawn sketches, got out his catalogue, and took his pencil (I kid you not) and scribbled down some exhobitent numbers. It was fine though because he then explained that a 60% discount would be applied. Phew!!!! Imagine my relief.... when I discovered I had travelled back in time to my late 20's....
Surely nobody falls for that bull in 2025?!?!?
It just offensive

I was one too in the 80's! Did he not try the 'let me call my manager' trick to close the deal...1

We recently had the opposite.
Invited around the sales guy for the local/high st Windows and doors company. We had used them before and always had done a good job, but were not cheap.
He measured up for new French doors and new sliding patio doors ( in UPVC).
Looked in his brochure and gave us a quote which was even higher than expected.
Put some pressure on him for a discount but nothing doing.
The only concessions we got was that they would try to tidy up some problems with the fascia boards above the doors when installing the doors, and free hook and eyes to hold the French doors open when windy.
It was interesting when they were being installed, how easily the old doors came off/out.
The security features of the new ones are so much better.0 -
I'm now on my 6th quote.
And I still haven't found a supplier that has provide a quote without a !!!!!! 'discount' replied to my queries/clarifications, quoted for what I actually asked for or even turned up

I've had so many people waste my time with quoting and then requoting discounts, let me talk to my manager etc. My first tactic was always to tell them that I work in the construction industry and that I want the actual price first time, not on a third round of price drops. I had to explain to one of them how to quote a 7 window bow window because her laminated sheet only had a maximum of 5 🤦♂️. This still didn't stop the quote starting at $45k on it's way down to the eventual £12k(ish). The final price was about right, but at this point I got so fed up with the BS that I told her to leave.
In the end, and after a couple more people came to quote, I measured up my window and door sizes and took them to a company and asked them to price them while I waited. The balance of power shifts when you can walk away at any time. The first price they quoted me was just over £10k, knowing full well that they wanted £10k and the extra few hundred pounds were there for knocking off. So that would be my advice, go to them, don't let them invade you! Some people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!1
