Thanks for all your replies / help.  I have been MIA as we have had our install today.  All went well, the guys worked really hard, were really professional and did a great job (see photos below) - thanks @Screwdriva for your help.

The one thing I didn't notice until they had gone is that the bird proofing doesn't rise and fall with the ridges of the tiles, not sure that it will stop any smaller birds (and the many mice we have around here), so will need to keep an eye on that.

Re tariffs I think this year I might just go with Flux & IOF, this seems to be what Tim's comparators website recommends what ever I enter and without some actual figures, I wonder if it would be better for me to look again at this next year when I understand how the DNO limits will affect everything and have some actual figures.

One thing I don't understand is that my current supplier BG told me at the weekend that they were not getting my smart meter readings, however I can still see them on my account via their website - that doesn't make sense to me, how can they be available via their website but not for my bills?  Am trying to get it sorted before moving across to Octopus, but confused never the less  :D

Is that a tree I see on the left that appears to be shading the leftmost panel?

I think it is just a reflection as the tree is north of our house.  We have asked them to trim it and they did the lower branches earlier in the year, but the person with the chainsaw licence was too ill at the time, so I think they will come back maybe early next year.... it's a community group who look after the ground/ trees.  We have two strings so that will hopefully help.

I'm not sure those Emlite meters are fully outdoor rated. They seem to be IP52 rated, which is for dust and light rain, not for heavy downpours. It it in an indoor or sheltered location or fully exposed to wind and rain?

    Great  :)

Please may I ask what is the meter measuring?
The reason I ask is that I had an Emlite meter like that on my old solar install measuring generation and loved it, but now we've fed all the solar into the PW3 inverter (2 strings) and I only have the PW3 app readings, which I find are not very accurate, at least for import/export compared to the daily smart meter readings. I didn't think you could use external meters with a Powerwall, but still have mine that could be repurposed.

  • Hi NedS
As far as I am aware it is recording our generation, but still a bit new to this... :)
We are using the Tesla app to see what the PW3 is doing and are considering other apps to be able to follow this and other info on our laptops - any recommendations?

I only use the Tesla App.
We bought a cheap tablet and have mounted it on the wall in the kitchen (which is the hub of our home) to act as a 'controller' for the system to run the Tesla App. I do think the App gives very clear information about generation, usage and battery state, and having that displayed on the wall in the kitchen is very convenient.
The NetZero App was very popular, integrates with the Tesla App and allows automating tasks, but they recently started charging for use, so we never installed it. I'm not aware of anything that can run on a laptop.

Octopus just increased the price of Cosy by 14% but has left the Intelligent tariffs (Flux/ Go) relatively untouched.

I believe trying to get on Octopus Go (which has been made slightly more favorable) is worth a shot, despite the tariff arriving considerably before the EV in your household :)

5 hours on 8.5p per kWh should be plenty for your PW3 in the winter (assuming you time the heavy appliances to run during the same window)  while exporting at 15p per kWh.
