HP Pavilion G6 - screen issue upon start ups

When i start up my old HP Pavilion G6 laptop sometimes i get a screen like the pictures below.
Doesn't happen all the time. When it does, turning it off and on again (maybe a few times ) gets it going.
What would be the most likely issue? The screen itself or wiring to the screen possibly?
There are a couple of blotches on the screen too.
Only using it as a second standby laptop.

  • I had similar on an old HP laptop, was fine for a few minutes then splat.

My local computer guy said it was either the screen shot or the graphics chip had fried - either repair would not have been financially sensible.

The screen is shot, suggested by those big blobs, someone has cracked the screen or the capacitors are bursting. You might be able to get away with connecting it up to an external monitor.

Get your local computer repair shop to quote on a new screen (or price them up online if you fancy a little DIY fun).
