Need to return a faulty item.

My wife and I bought a freesat from Currys. Set it up and seemed fine but after 2 or 3 hours the sound went off. We had to unplug it and turn it on again but after a few hours the sound went off again. We also found we could not record a programme and watch another live channel. On the box it said you could record up to 4 channels and watch a live channel. So we were not very happy that there was a problem with the sound and also we could not record.

I contacted Currys after a few days on live chat and told them we wanted to return it. We bought it on freepay so we wanted it cancelled on return. I got told that we could return it and was given a return number. I was told to put the return address on it and that DPD would be intouch by email to pick it up. I waited over a week and still no email from DPD. I then went back on to live chat and was told that it had not been booked for a return. The agent went through everything I went through before, asking me if I wanted a replacement. I told her that I just wanted it  picked up and the freepay cancelled.

The agent then just cut me off. So I sent a email of complaint to Currys 5 days ago and still no reply. I get the feeling they are stalling for time untill the 30 days have passed. They know we are pensioners and feel they are hoping we will get fed up.

I wondered if I could return it myself by special delivery or take it back to the shop. What can we do?

I would just take it back to the shop.

Currys are not universally liked but I have taken faulty things back to my local branch and always had the issue resolved without fuss there and then.

But don't accuse the manager of cheating pensioners!

Persevere online via chat or phone call.

The clock stopped when they gave you the return number.

How on earth do they know you are pensioners?

What card have or are you trying to play with that status?

    Absolutely.  Currys cheat everyone equally!
  • We bought it on freepay so I had to give all my details plus the guy on live chat asked if anyone would be home to have it picked up and I said we are pensioners so are mostly at home. Not much point going on live chat again so will try the store and no I won't accuse the Manager of cheating pensioners. Thanks for the replies.

The point to make to Currys is that the item is faulty and that when you first contacted them you were exercising your statutory right under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 to make what is called a short term (ie 30 days) right to reject faulty goods for a full refund.

So long as you notified them within 30 days and they agreed the return, it doesn't matter if it takes more than 30 dyas to return
