Interesting re using a Sniper.

Hi.
I've just placed a bid for a car using a sniping tool - Gixen. The vehicle didn't reach reserve, but I was the highest bidder; my actual snipe figure was above the end price.
I asked what the 'reserve' was to see if I could meet it, and the seller told me - along with what the 'highest bid' he'd received was - and it was my snipe. He didn't seem to relate it to me, but still knew what it was. Ie, he knew that someone had bid at my snipe level, even tho' the ending bid (from my snipe) was less due to a lack of competing offers.
How does that work?!

I presume Snipe just bids your highest number rather than next price up if that’s what you’re thinking.
Obviously (excluding reserves) you still win at the lowest possible price (just the same if you bid normally).
Now normally you don’t see buyers highest bid as a seller but I’m presuming it’s different with a reserve. If your bid had been higher than reserve, presumably you would have won at the reserve price,1 -

Status (main): RESERVE NOT MET
Status (mirror): RESERVE NOT MET
Then,
Your maximum bid: 1****
Current price: 1****
The guy could see what my max bid was, roughly £700 more than the closing highest bid (reserve not met).0 -
Yes.
If you have added a reserve price you can see all the bids placed below reserve.
If the reserve was £800, and another bidder has bid £200 and you bid £700 you will see the bidding at £210 and the auction will end on that (if no more bids are placed)
The seller can go into the bid history and see one bid of £200 and one bid of £700 with 'reserve not met' next to the bids.
The seller can also use the 2nd chance offer feature which shows the maximum bids placed.
The seller won't see your full user name so it's not obvious to link that bid to you if you contact them afterwards but it's not impossible to link the usernames if you wanted to put the effort in.
