Sunday Times Where Was I? competition
(www.thetimes.co.uk/travel/destinations/competition/where-was-i-ftrnmb55n)
The prize:
The winner and guest will stay for two nights, B&B, in a suite at the Lord Crewe Arms, a former monastic guesthouse and a member of the Calcot Collection of hotels. Below a moody stretch of Co Durham moorland, the hotel is spread through nearly half of Blanchland and serves up an enchanting mix of flagstone floors, crackling fires and bedrooms that are chic yet characterful.
Dinner is served in the bishop’s lofty dining room, the bar is in a low, barrel-vaulted crypt and – if that is not atmospheric enough – you can mingle with the ghosts at the church in the old abbey.
The prize also includes one dinner for two (excluding drinks), where you can feast on local, seasonal ingredients such as venison, partridge and toasted walnuts. It must be taken before May 31, 2026, subject to availability and excluding bank holidays, as well as the period from December 20 to January 3, 2026.
