Obtaining car insurance quotes after an accident

Looking for some advice please. Unfortunately had an accident earlier this month (a truck attempted to squeeze past my stationary vehicle and failed
), and it happened just before I had to renew.
The renewal invite from the current insurer (who I was planning to switch from before the accident) has just jumped approximately £400, so I am looking on the price comparison websites, but could someone please tell me how I fill in the accident claims whilst the case is being investigated? I know it's a fault claim, but do I put both parties at fault, or driver at fault?
In the event of the case being settled in my favour, would an adjustment to my premium be made and a refund premium be paid back to me automatically, or would I have to request this?
Thanks.

Ideally there would be an option to put it down as an open/unresolved claim; if not "driver at fault" would be correct as nothing has been recovered from the third party yet. Most insurers won't distinguish between that and "both drivers at fault" anyway.
You should speak to the new insurer before you buy and check whether they will adjust your premium if/when the claim is settled. Some insurers won't do it at all; if they will you'll certainly have to do some legwork as your old insure won't automatically inform the new insurer that the clain is settled. (Should happen automatically if you renew with the same insurer though).1
