Registering purchase of property at Land Registry

I purchased a house in February and paid a solicitor that I found using a comparison site for the conveyancing.
I received an email from another firm yesterday informing me that the chosen company had been closed by the SRA and I may need to instruct another solicitor to act on my behalf.
I have already paid for this and don't have the resources to pay again. I checked the registry online and it hasn't been registered so I spoke to them this afternoon. They asked that I provide them with another solicitor and I explained to them that I cannot afford to do so and so would like to attempt to navigate the process myself.
I was told that they had contacted said firm but I have to request any correspondence in writing and that they would first have to check that Abbot Law are no longer in business.
My questions are;
1) Am I entitled to claim my fee back? I have downloaded a claim form which is 14 pages long which I will complete.
2) If not, can I register it myself?
The property was a cash purchase.

They may have already done all the paperwork and it could be sitting in a long queue at Land Registry waiting to be actioned. So there may be nothing you can do other than wait.
if you send a private message to @Land_Registry with the title deed reference number they may be willing to check for you.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Presumably when OP contacted us they were told whether an application had been submitted or not. I'm guessing by our response that one has hence the request to confirm if a new firm has been appointed to act for you.
If so then waiting isn't really the best option and you should follow the SRA guidance and if you don't want to appoint a new firm to act then contact us in writing to explain what has happened and to confirm that you wish to act for yourself and provide your contact details and postal address.
If the application has been submitted and is all in order then we will run our own checks re the closure etc and process the application as appropriate. If it's not in order and more is needed then that can be an issue depending on what's needed. But don't wait - get in touch formally, not by phone. So, I did explain that I would like to act alone and this is the response I received this morning:Thank you for your email informing us that the solicitor that lodged your application has been intervened by the SRA. We have been informed that Gordons are the intervening solicitor.Please appoint a new solicitor for the application to be processed. The application has been started and a letter requesting further information was sent to Abbott Legal Limited on 13 August 2025.Once it has been confirmed who will be acting for you, we will write to them requesting the information. I have informed the caseworker of the situation.
I have also requested my file from the solicitors that are dealing with Abbots current cases.0
