When to pick green toms/ cold weather

Wannabe gardening newbie here!

Day temps have dropped and not helped by raining most days.   I've lots of green tomatoes on the vine still - has it got too cold to the point of needing to take them off to ripen indoors or is it too late?     I heard they shouldn't be in the cold too much and the overnight temps acc to the forecasts are close to 11 degrees at time (London).

What say the gardening peeps?

    Welcome TeeAy 🙂

I've had tomatoes ripen into November last year though that is a little unusual. South west.
You still have one ripening on the vine. The ripening process gives off something that will make others ripen.
Putting a ripe one with others can sometimes start them off.

The cold may turn the leaves but won't affect the fruit. Frost will.
I'm leaving mine on and it's annoyingly 9c here. They are still ripening.

But then there is green tomato chutney.

Why not pick a couple and bring them in? See what happens. The skins are tougher if ripened indoors.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I had some success ripening home grown tomatoes by putting them in a brown paper bag with ripe ones from the supermarket. But I think it helps if they've started the ripening process already.

    Green tomato chutney is yum.

I'm going to leave mine until the end of the month, then just select the best ones to ripen on the conservatory windowsill.  We're not into green tomato chutney.
