Needing new mobile contract

My current mobile contract ends on 9 Oct, so within the last 30 days. I smashed my phone screen last week and really need a new phone asap. After looking at deals l won't stay with my current provider. But can buy a new deal with new provider today or do l need to give my current provider notice and wait to buy till after the 9 oct? Thanks

You can buy your new phone now - but you'll be paying for both services until 9 October. Your old contract is automatically cancelled when you port your number to your new provider.1

There's nothing stopping you from going to a new provider at any time, but you'd need to check the terms of your existing contract to ascertain if there are any financial consequences in doing so.1

You could buy a SIM-free phone outright and just swap your current SIM into it?Then buy a SIM-only deal and PAC your number over closer to the end of your current contract.N. Hampshire, he/him. No reason why you can't take out a new deal today, you'll get a new phone and a new airtime contract.
You'll obviously be paying for your existing contract too, so you should ask for a PAC which will enable you to swap your number to your new contract and it will also end your old contract without charge (when it's actioned) because you are within 30 days of your minimum term end date under your contract.1 -
It may work out far more cost effective to buy a phone outright and then take a SIM-only contract. You can use the phone with your current SIM until the contract runs out and then swap to which ever new SIM you choose going forwards.glengorms said:My current mobile contract ends on 9 Oct, so within the last 30 days.
