I have a had phone call from a company called my solar home who want to sell me solar panels.
I live in London - small semi, south facing back garden, loft conversion (so some of my roof is flat).
I don't spend a lot on electricity about £90 last December
Is this a good idea?

Were you looking at / considering buying solar panels or was this a cold call? Our green credentials: 12kW Samsung ASHP for heating, 7.2kWp Solar (South facing), Tesla Powerwall 3 (13.5kWh), Net exporter2

In general it's rarely a good idea to engage with cold callers. If you're genuinely interested in solar panels, ask over on the Green and Ethical forum:N. Hampshire, he/him. Octopus Intelligent Go elec & Tracker gas / Vodafone BB / iD mobile. Ripple Kirk Hill member.
2.72kWp PV facing SSW installed Jan 2012. 11 x 247w panels, 3.6kw inverter. 34 MWh generated, long-term average 2.6 Os.Not exactly back from my break, but dipping in and out of the forum.Ofgem cap table, Ofgem cap explainer. Solar panels can be worth it if you intend to live there for many years. The payback period could be around 8-10 years, giving pure profit after that. But only if you buy at the right price. If you get talked into an over-priced system, it could be many more years before you break even, and that's also the point where things start going wrong out of warranty and need replacing.Solar panels tend to generate lots of electricity in the spring and summer. Less in autumn, and very little in winter. So don't expect much saving on winter heating bills. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.1 -
There are grants for heat pump and solar if household income under 31k or on some benefits, Eco4, Eco4 Flex and Local Grant but they can be hard to actually get, epc has to be D or worse.1
